This track was written in late 2011 and was my first composition to be featured in a video game. The game is called "Violet's Lockpick Game" and was developed by WhileTrueFork for the website of author Lev Rosen as a tie-in to his critically acclaimed debut Steampunk novel, All Men of Genius. The game requires the player to manipulate a mechanical key to conform to the shape of a lock, which then unlocks bonus material related to the book. I envisioned a young woman sitting on the floor of an ornate music room on a summer afternoon, focused intently on tinkering with some small but complex mechanical device while musicians practice in the background. The track title refers to the fact that the protagonist in the book is a mechanical genius but, being a female in a re-imagined Victorian era , is also expected to conform to standards of being a "lady" and perform "lady-like" activities accordingly.
