about

Just Keep Walking was the first track I started writing for a game tentatively named Runthki, and is one the most complex and ambitious track I have completed thus far. WhileTrueFork began developing the game in late 2011, but it is currently on hold while we finish other projects. Runthki is a platformer with a graphical style inspired by the abstract expressionist art of painter Mark Rothko. I wanted to create a soundtrack that explored a broad range of emotion between and within each track. As I began writing this piece, exploring various instrumental sounds, I began to form images in my mind of an anonymous, solitary man trudging through a cold, bleak industrial city as night was fast approaching. The man must keep moving, trying not to draw attention to himself as he proceeds because he knows someone or something is pursuing him relentlessly. The opening melancholy chords of the piece reflect this bleak environment, and as the piece progresses, the rich orchestral elements represent the man's turbulent emotions bubbling just below the surface. The songs in the game's soundtrack are meant to connect to one another and create a sense of musical continuity through instrumentation and stylistic traits. While we did not develop a specific narrative for the game, I attempted to depict a physical and emotional journey through these musical connections.
