about

This game, as the name would imply, is described by the creator as "whack-a-mole meets The Telltale Heart". As you may recall, the narrator in The Telltale Heart is tormented by auditory hallucinations of a beating heart after committing a gruesome murder. In this game you must "whack" various bizarre objects that twist and distort themselves as they fly toward you in a surreal, minimalist game environment. Beneath the music, an ominous heartbeat persists throughout the game. Since the game was so abstract and surreal I wanted to emulate the sound of a jazz combo using dissonance, repetition, and improvisation to create a weird, creepy, slightly crazy musical affect. Fellow game jammer Jarryd Huntley did a fantastic job playing a variety of strumming patterns on the mandolin, which I layered in various ways throughout the track.
