about

I wrote this track back in April for a game demo developed by my business partner Sam Marcus. The game was created as a demonstration for a game design workshop organized through the Cleveland Game Developer Organization and hosted by the Cleveland Institute of Art. We didn't come up with a title for the game, but the concept is based on ball toss games one would find at any carnival. This game increases the challenge of a standard ball toss by incorporating moving rings and obstacles (penguins...nasty horrible penguins). The rings are colored coded by point value and timing your throw with a moving power bar determines the distance and strength of the ball toss. The visual intent was to a cheap carnival aesthetic, and to compliment the graphics, I tried to imagine the kind of music that would accompany an impromptu party on the carnival grounds long after closing time. The musicians at this gathering would bring folk instruments or whatever was on hand at the carnival attractions, such as carousel organ music. As the party progresses, the workers dance wildly and the intensity of the piece builds toward the final climactic cadence. From rough concept to finished product, this track took approximately 12 hours over the course of a week to complete.
